If you were there last year for Corvus Corax, you’ve already encountered the other face of the beast: Tanzwut. Born in Berlin, this project is the amplified alter ego of the masters of acoustic medieval metal. Bagpipes, massive riffs, industrial beats, and choruses hammered out in German—the recipe has all the hallmarks of a hellish tavern atmosphere. We haven’t quite crossed over into the world of Dungeons & Dragons, but you could easily mistake it for it. On stage, costumes, flames, and the ever-present Teufel (aka Mike Paulenz) with his little red horns give each concert the feel of a metal sabbath. Did you know? “Tanzwut” literally means “the mania for dancing.” And believe us, it’s highly contagious.
